Midas Minerals Targets Three Otavi Copper Resources by Q1 2027 After High-Grade Drilling Results
Midas Minerals is advancing plans to establish three Mineral Resource Estimates (MREs) at its Otavi Copper-Silver-Gold Project in Namibia, following a series of encouraging high-grade copper and silver drilling results.
The Australian-listed exploration company is targeting the first quarter of 2027 to update the existing resource at the T-13 deposit and deliver maiden MREs for the Deblin and Spaatzu prospects.
The programme would potentially transform Otavi from a project with one defined mineral resource into a three-resource copper district, while Midas continues exploration across its broader Namibian landholding.
T-13 resource update
T-13 currently hosts an Inferred Mineral Resource Estimate of 10.5 million tonnes grading 1.6% copper and 21 grams per tonne silver, containing approximately 211,000 tonnes of copper equivalent.
The deposit has returned several high-grade intersections, including 50.6 metres at 5.25% copper and 135.3 grams per tonne silver, as well as 46.2 metres at 2.55% copper and 77 grams per tonne silver.
Midas said the assumptions and technical parameters underpinning the existing T-13 resource remain applicable, with no new information identified that would materially affect the estimate.
The company is now undertaking further drilling and evaluation ahead of an updated resource estimate expected in the first quarter of 2027.
Deblin shows strong potential
Deblin represents a second potential resource within the Otavi project, with drilling returning broad zones of high-grade copper mineralisation.
Recent results include 35.6 metres at 3.35% copper, while another intersection returned 17.7 metres at 3.21% copper and 11.3 grams per tonne silver.
Unlike T-13, Deblin does not yet have a defined mineral resource. The planned maiden MRE will provide the first formal assessment of the volume of mineralisation that can be incorporated into the project’s mineral inventory.
The results to date suggest that Deblin could make a meaningful contribution to Otavi’s overall resource base.
Spaatzu expands exploration upside
The third deposit being advanced towards a maiden resource is Spaatzu, where drilling has identified broad copper-silver mineralisation.
Midas has reported intersections including 44 metres at 1.36% copper and 36.8 grams per tonne silver, 20 metres at 1.83% copper and 63.4 grams per tonne silver, and 29 metres at 1.47% copper and 37 grams per tonne silver.
More recent drilling has continued to demonstrate the potential of the prospect, including a 52-metre intersection grading 1.19% copper, 8.7 grams per tonne silver and 1.93% lead, with the mineralised zone remaining a focus of ongoing exploration.
Midas plans to incorporate the results into a maiden MRE for Spaatzu, also targeted for the first quarter of 2027.
Building a larger copper inventory
The three deposits are at different stages of resource definition, but together they represent a broader strategy to establish multiple sources of copper mineralisation across Otavi.
While T-13 currently accounts for the project’s defined mineral inventory, Deblin and Spaatzu could add significant additional tonnage once their mineralisation is converted into formal resources.
Midas is also continuing exploration beyond the three deposits, with drilling planned across other targets within its extensive Otavi landholding.
The company has previously highlighted the project’s substantial exploration potential, with modern exploration having covered less than 40% of the broader tenure.
The next major milestone will come in Q1 2027, when Midas expects to deliver the updated T-13 resource alongside maiden estimates for Deblin and Spaatzu.
The results will provide a clearer picture of the scale of Otavi’s copper-silver-gold mineral inventory and determine how significantly the project’s defined resources can grow beyond the existing T-13 resource.
