MMG’s Kinsevere Produces 33,800 Tonnes of Copper Cathodes in H1 2026 as Expansion Drives Growth
MMG’s Kinsevere copper operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) delivered strong production growth in the first half of 2026, producing 33,800 tonnes of copper cathodes, up 33% compared with the same period last year.
The improved performance reflects the continued ramp-up of the Kinsevere Expansion Project, which has strengthened the mine’s processing capacity and supported higher copper output.
Kinsevere produced 16,820 tonnes of copper cathodes in the first quarter, representing a 44% year-on-year increase, while second-quarter production reached 16,980 tonnes, up 24% from the corresponding period in 2025.
The operation’s stronger performance was supported by improvements to its sulphide processing circuit, including the concentrator and Roaster, Gas Cleaning and Acid Plant (RGA).
Efforts to improve power supply reliability have also helped reduce disruptions to production.
Despite the progress, power reliability remains an important operational challenge for Kinsevere.
MMG is implementing a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to provide backup power during temporary outages and improve the stability of electricity supplied to the operation.
Kinsevere’s copper production is expected to remain within MMG’s full-year guidance of 65,000 to 75,000 tonnes for 2026.
The operation is also benefiting from mining at the Nambulwa satellite pit, while ongoing improvements to the processing and tailings infrastructure are expected to support production and operational efficiency.
The strong first-half performance comes as MMG continues to invest in Kinsevere’s expansion and aims to maximise the value of its copper resources in the DRC.
Kinsevere remains an important part of MMG’s global copper portfolio, while the company’s broader DRC operations contribute to the country’s position as a major supplier of copper and other critical minerals.
