URU Metals Signs Drilling Contract for South Africa’s Zeb Nickel Project as Maiden Resource Estimate Targeted
URU Metals has taken a significant step forward in the development of its Zeb Nickel Project after its subsidiary, Lesego Platinum Uitloop (LPU), signed a drilling contract for the next exploration phase at the project in South Africa’s Limpopo Province.
The appointment of a drilling contractor marks the transition from planning to execution for a project that the company believes could become a major nickel, copper and platinum group metals asset.
Mobilisation to the project site is scheduled to begin on November 2, with drilling expected to commence on November 9, subject to the completion of final site preparation activities and health and safety requirements.
Focus on Defining a Maiden Resource
The initial drilling programme will concentrate on Zone 2 of the Zeb project, where the company aims to gather the geological data required to support its first mineral resource estimate for nickel, copper and platinum group element mineralisation.
Drill targets have been identified using a completed Leapfrog 3D geological model, which has helped refine the placement of drill holes and improve confidence in the exploration strategy.
The upcoming campaign is expected to play a critical role in determining the scale and continuity of mineralisation across the project area and could pave the way for future development studies.
Key Milestone for URU Metals
URU exploration manager Richard Montjoie described the signing of the drilling contract as a major achievement for the company following more than a year of planning and technical work.
According to the company, the commencement of drilling represents a potentially transformational phase for the Zeb Nickel Project as it advances toward establishing its maiden mineral resource estimate.
Management believes the drilling programme will help unlock the project’s potential and provide valuable insights into the extent of the mineralised system.
Growing Interest in Critical Minerals
The Zeb project is being advanced at a time when global demand for critical minerals such as nickel and copper continues to grow, driven by increasing investment in electric vehicles, battery technologies and energy transition infrastructure.
A successful resource definition programme could strengthen URU Metals’ position within the critical minerals sector and enhance the project’s long-term development prospects.
With mobilisation imminent and drilling preparations nearing completion, the company is set to begin a campaign that could significantly advance understanding of one of its key South African exploration assets.
