Germany and Nigeria Deepen Commercial Partnership in Renewable Energy, Technology and Strategic Investment
Germany and Nigeria have agreed to strengthen economic cooperation through a new commercial partnership focused on renewable energy, digital technology, manufacturing and strategic investment, as both countries seek to expand trade and support sustainable economic growth.
The agreement was discussed during high-level talks in Abuja between Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Germany’s Federal Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul.
The discussions covered opportunities to deepen collaboration in renewable energy, digital innovation, critical minerals, manufacturing, infrastructure, education and regional security.
Nigeria encouraged German companies to increase investment in priority sectors, highlighting the country’s growing digital economy, renewable energy ambitions and abundant critical mineral resources.
The government said stronger foreign investment and technology transfer would support industrialisation, job creation and economic diversification.
Germany reaffirmed its commitment to expanding commercial ties with Africa’s largest economy, noting that Nigeria remains its second-largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa.
Bilateral trade has continued to grow, with more than 100 German companies currently operating in Nigeria across sectors including manufacturing, engineering, energy and technology.
Beyond trade and investment, both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in innovation, vocational training, infrastructure development and clean energy.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to working together on regional security and economic stability in West Africa.
The renewed partnership reflects a shared ambition to deepen economic ties while positioning Nigeria as a leading destination for German investment in Africa’s rapidly growing renewable energy, technology and industrial sectors.
