Kodal Minerals Boosts Lithium Output to Record Levels at Mali’s Bougouni Mine as Shipments and Revenue Climb
West Africa-focused Kodal Minerals reported higher production, shipments and revenue at its Bougouni Lithium Mine in the first quarter of the year, signalling a steady operational ramp-up as the project transitions toward sustained production.
The company produced 26,981 tonnes of spodumene concentrate grading 5.28% lithium oxide (Li₂O) during the three-month period, with March output exceeding 10,900 tonnes, marking a record monthly production level for the operation.
Two shipments completed during the quarter lifted cumulative exports to approximately 49,000 tonnes, while revenue received by the project operator exceeded $51 million, with a final balancing payment still outstanding.
“The March production of over 10,900 tonnes and the recent departure of the third shipment highlight continued improvement and consistent delivery at Bougouni,” said Bernard Aylward, pointing to plant upgrades and mining optimisation initiatives designed to improve throughput, reliability and operational efficiency.
The results underscore Bougouni’s progression toward stable commercial production at a time when global lithium markets are showing signs of recovery.
Ongoing feasibility studies for a Phase Two flotation plant are expected to support future capacity expansion and strengthen the project’s long-term growth outlook.
Located approximately 180 kilometres from Bamako, the Bougouni operation began production in early 2025, with its first shipments dispatched in October of that year.
The mine is currently Mali’s second active lithium operation after the Goulamina Lithium Project, developed by Ganfeng Lithium, which commenced operations in late 2024.
Ownership of the project is structured through Kodal Mining UK, in which Kodal Minerals holds a 49% stake alongside majority partner Hainan Mining.
Kodal Mining UK in turn owns 65% of Les Mines de Lithium de Bougouni, the project’s operating entity, in partnership with the Mali government, and is responsible for overall management and operations.
