Kodal Minerals Receives Export Permit for 125,000 Tonnes of Spodumene from Bougouni Lithium Project
Kodal Minerals, a leading mineral exploration and development company, has announced that the export permit for spodumene concentrate from its Bougouni Lithium Project in southern Mali has been officially approved.
The project is operated by Les Mines de Lithium de Bougouni SA (LMLB), a Mali-registered company and subsidiary of Kodal Mining UK Limited (KMUK), in which Kodal Minerals holds a 49% stake.
The export permit, authorised by the Ministry of Mines and signed by Minister of Mines Professor Amadou Keita, covers an initial 125,000 tonnes of spodumene concentrate. The approval is subject to the completion of the remaining administrative steps for the export process.
The permit outlines key conditions, including:
Pricing Mechanism: Confirmation that pricing will be based on the Shanghai Metal Market (SMM) reference price for spodumene, with the administration retaining the right to verify and adjust prices if necessary.
Local Transportation: The transport contract for the project’s exports will be awarded directly to Malian transport companies, in accordance with Law No. 2023-04 of August 29, 2023, which promotes local content in the mining sector.
Taxes and Levies: Compliance with all applicable taxes, duties, and levies as stipulated by local regulations.
Kodal Minerals confirmed that the Project’s Off-Take Agreement aligns with the SMM pricing mechanism. Additionally, the Project has secured a transport contract with a leading Malian logistics company to move the spodumene from the site to the port in Côte d’Ivoire. All taxes and duties will be paid in full when due.
Bernard Aylward, CEO of Kodal Minerals, commented:
“The granting of the export license is a critical step for the development of the Bougouni Project and for Mali’s growing spodumene industry.
This permit demonstrates the continued support of the Mali Ministry of Mines and the Government, and their commitment to the expansion of Bougouni.”
He added: “Final administrative processes will be completed imminently, and the mobilisation of the trucking fleet to the site will begin as soon as possible.”
