Peru, the world’s third-largest producer of copper, recorded a 7.91% year-on-year increase in copper output in April, reaching 220,261 metric tons, according to the country’s Ministry of Energy and Mines.
The ministry attributed the growth primarily to improved production at key mining operations. Southern Copper saw a 2.8% rise in output compared to the same month last year, while MMG Ltd’s Las Bambas mine reported a significant 74.5% surge in production.
Looking ahead, Energy and Mines Minister Jorge Montero stated in early June that Peru’s total copper production for 2025 is projected to increase slightly, reaching approximately 2.8 million metric tons.
