Speaking at the Mozambique Mining and Energy Conference (MMEC) in Maputo, Chamber of Mines president Geert Klok emphasized the significant opportunity the energy transition presents for Mozambique.
The conference’s mining panel highlighted the country’s ample reserves of critical raw materials like graphite and lithium, crucial for producing batteries for electric vehicles.
To attract further investments, Mozambique must adopt a long-term approach, providing stability in policies and legislation.
Klok highlighted the need for a supportive business climate and proposed measures to improve it, including reducing fees at the Mining Cadastre and streamlining INAMI’s approval process for mining licenses and share transfers.
Addressing local beneficiation and industrialization, Klok stressed the importance of creating an environment where companies can compete internationally.
The MMEC Conference, in its tenth edition, serves as a vital platform for discussions on Mozambique’s mining industry and its future.
