Verify Engineering Achieves Breakthrough with Zero-Failure Lithium-Ion Batteries in Zimbabwe
In a major milestone for Zimbabwe’s clean energy ambitions, Verify Engineering (Pvt) Ltd, a state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science, and Technology Development, has successfully completed a year-long test phase of its lithium-ion batteries with a zero-failure rate.
The production-grade batteries—typically used in mobile phones and other small electronic devices—have been certified for a 10-year lifespan, signaling a leap forward in Zimbabwe’s efforts to become a hub for green technology.
Engineer Pedzisai Tapfumaneyi, CEO of Verify Engineering, confirmed the breakthrough.
“We are happy to report that after a full year of testing, we recorded a zero failure rate on the product just last month,” he stated, highlighting the product’s robust design and scalability.
Zimbabwe holds Africa’s largest lithium reserves and ranks fifth globally in lithium resources, according to The Herald.
If mined, processed, and exported effectively, these resources could generate significant foreign exchange earnings to support national development.
The government is pushing for domestic value addition by banning the export of raw lithium concentrate since December 2022, under the Base Mineral Export Control Act.
The policy aims to boost local beneficiation, retain more revenue, and curb illegal smuggling.
As Zimbabwe moves toward a green economy, Verify Engineering’s success could position the country as a key regional player in lithium battery manufacturing and other clean-tech solutions essential to the global energy transition.
Founded in April 2005, Verify Engineering is already active in the production and distribution of medical and industrial gases, with operations across Harare, Bulawayo, and Mutare.
The company’s next goal is to secure funding and industrial partners to establish a full-scale lithium-ion battery production facility.
Tapfumaneyi added,
“You may recall we won an award for our lithium-ion battery innovation. After rigorous year-long testing, we are proud to confirm that we achieved a zero-failure rate, marking a new chapter for Zimbabwe’s industrial capabilities.”
