Zambia is on track to commence car battery production by the end of July this year, with manufacturing equipment now in place.
During a tour of the Jiangxi Multi Facility Economic Zone in Chibombo district, Xu Jianfeng, the facility’s general manager, announced plans for two months of equipment testing and plant finalization before production begins.
The initial phase will see the production of 400,000 batteries, with capacity set to double once full production begins.
The facility has secured nine investment agreements totaling over $100 million, promising the creation of 1,500 jobs.
Investments span diverse sectors including cigarette manufacturing, transformer assembly, quarry crushing, and electricity cable production, with Jiangxi Copper’s equipment expected on site next month.
Commerce, Trade, and Industry Minister Chipoka Mulenga emphasized the importance of ensuring high-quality, affordable products accessible to local communities, urging investors to prioritize local needs.
