SX-listed Walkabout Resources has kicked off commissioning activities at its Lindi Jumbo graphite mine in Tanzania, marking a crucial step toward full operational status as a critical minerals producer.
The commissioning process involves pre-commissioning, dry commissioning, and wet commissioning stages.
Andrew Cunningham, CEO and MD of Walkabout, expressed confidence in the smooth progression of dry commissioning after rigorous testing in China during factory acceptance, praising the efforts of the Jinpeng team and the assembled commissioning experts.
The commissioning team, consisting of experienced specialists from Jinpeng and Lindi Jumbo’s operational staff, prioritizes safety and reliability throughout the process.
Their extensive background in graphite and plant commissioning ensures a methodical and competent approach.
Activities, conducted in stages on completed plant sections, encompass meticulous inspections, confirmation of operational parts, and the installation of critical components such as conveyors, motor control centers, and safety measures.
While precommissioning activities have been underway, delays in receiving essential electrical components required for wet commissioning, like transformers and switching gear, have hampered progress due to congestion at the Dar es Salaam port.
Upon their arrival and installation, the full power capacity needed for wet commissioning will be established, facilitating ore processing throughout the plant.
To meet the criteria outlined in the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract, Lindi Jumbo’s formal commissioning mandates an uninterrupted 48-hour operation at its specified capacity. Any necessary rectification work before formal commissioning falls under the EPC contractor’s responsibility.
