The University of Kansas (KU) and Panasonic Energy have announced a partnership to advance the development of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs).
This collaboration aims to significantly reduce CO2 emissions by promoting the adoption of EVs.
Panasonic is currently constructing its second North American factory in DeSoto, with production expected to commence by the end of March 2025.
This new facility is a critical component of Panasonic Energy’s strategy to expand EV battery production capacity in North America.
KU is contributing to this initiative as part of the 2011 University Engineering Initiative Act, which seeks to address the growing demand for engineering graduates.
The university boasts a state-of-the-art energy and battery research lab, equipped with advanced research capabilities.
Through this partnership, KU and Panasonic will work together to innovate battery technology and cultivate specialists in the field. Both parties are actively discussing the future direction and development of their collaboration.
