U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Liberian Foreign Minister discuss expanding U.S. investment in Liberia’s critical minerals industry
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Liberian Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti in Washington last Thursday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand U.S. engagement in Liberia’s critical minerals sector, the U.S. State Department said in a statement on Friday.
According to State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott, the meeting focused on deepening U.S.–Liberia cooperation and enhancing commercial and economic ties between the two nations.
“The meeting explored avenues for expanding U.S. participation in Liberia’s critical minerals sector, with the goal of creating jobs and fostering economic growth in both the United States and Liberia,” Pigott said.
The discussion reflects Washington’s growing interest in strategic mineral partnerships across Africa, as the U.S. seeks to diversify its supply chains for key resources essential to clean energy technologies and manufacturing.
