Trigon Metals’ Kalahari Copper Project has been chosen for the Unified Novel Deep Exploration for Critical Ore Discovery (UNDERCOVER) project, a €5 million EU-funded initiative aimed at advancing deep mineral exploration technologies and fostering responsible resource development.
One of only three projects selected, the three-year research program will begin on January 1, 2025, bringing together 16 partners from Finland, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Namibia, and Canada.
The consortium includes geological surveys, universities, research institutes, exploration companies, industrial clusters, and SMEs, highlighting strong international collaboration.
Trigon’s joint venture with Ongwe Minerals covers 765,000 hectares in Namibia’s Kalahari Copper Belt, a highly prospective region for copper exploration.
A drill hole near the project’s eastern border recently intersected 83 meters at 0.7% copper and 17 g/t silver, underscoring the region’s potential.
The Kalahari Copper Belt’s extensive sand cover presents exploration challenges, but research advancements under the UNDERCOVER project will help refine exploration strategies.
Trigon Metals CEO Jed Richardson called the selection an honor, emphasizing its potential to transform mineral discovery.
Geological Survey of Finland Research Professor Jochen Kamm highlighted the project’s role in fostering cross-border knowledge exchange and advancing sustainable mineral exploration.
