Taykwa Tagamou Nation (TTN) has committed $20 million to acquire an 8.4% stake in TSX-V-listed Canada Nickel Company, marking a milestone in economic empowerment and collaborative resource development.
The investment will support the advancement of Canada Nickel’s Crawford Nickel Sulphide Project in Ontario, a key initiative in delivering critical minerals for the clean energy transition.
Canada Nickel CEO Mark Selby expressed enthusiasm for the partnership:
“We are excited to welcome TTN as true partners in our journey to deliver critical minerals for the clean energy transition.
As we advance Crawford toward a construction decision, we also aim to unlock the Timmins Nickel District’s potential by completing eight resources by mid-2025. Together, we’re building a future that benefits the environment and future generations.”
TTN Deputy Chief Derek Archibald highlighted the importance of this agreement:
“TTN has always sought to lead with vision and action, and we’re proud that this partnership sets a new benchmark for First Nations’ engagement in the mining sector.
This agreement shows what can be achieved when First Nations leverage their own-source revenues and prioritize respect, collaboration, and equity.”
The partnership underscores the significance of the Crawford Nickel Sulphide Project, which plays a pivotal role in supporting the global clean energy transition.
The collaboration between TTN and Canada Nickel sets a precedent for meaningful First Nations involvement in resource development, combining economic growth with sustainable practices.
With this investment, TTN and Canada Nickel are laying the groundwork for a future of shared success and mutual benefits.
