In a major push to boost its mining sector, the Government of Tanzania has partnered with the UK-funded Manufacturing Africa Programme to review an In-Depth Analysis Report highlighting short- and medium-term opportunities for value addition in the country’s critical and strategic minerals.
The meeting, chaired by Minister of Minerals Hon. Anthony Mavunde, welcomed a UK delegation led by Ms. Tamsin Clayton, Head of the Economic and Diplomacy Section at the British High Commission.
The report identifies 13 key value addition opportunities across 11 types of minerals present in Tanzania.
This analysis aligns with the Ministry of Minerals’ broader strategy, which aims to unlock up to USD 11 billion in annual revenue and generate thousands of jobs, with a strong focus on youth and women empowerment.
Minister Mavunde stressed the importance of investing in comprehensive mineral exploration to better assess national reserves.
He also called for strong collaboration among public institutions and international partners to ensure successful implementation of the government’s mineral value addition strategy.
He extended special thanks to the Ministry’s technical team for their contributions to the analysis, reaffirming the government’s commitment to advancing its mineral value chain development agenda.
