ASX-listed Syrah Resources announced on Thursday that Chairperson Jim Askew will retire from the board of directors by December 31, following more than ten years of service.
Askew joined the board in November 2014 and played a pivotal role in Syrah’s transformation, including the development and commissioning of its flagship Balama graphite operation in Mozambique and the Vidalia active anode material facility in Louisiana, USA.
During his tenure, Syrah established itself as a leading global supplier of natural graphite and active anode materials, critical components in the electric vehicle and battery industries.
“Jim’s deep operating experience and principled leadership have made him a highly valued chair and director across multiple listed companies, both in Australia and internationally,” said Managing Director and CEO Shaun Verner.
“His considered advice, tireless dedication, and unwavering focus on long-term shareholder value have provided clarity and motivation to me and the broader Syrah team over the past decade.”
Askew will remain in his role until a successor is appointed. The transition is being overseen by Lisa Bahash, chair of Syrah’s remuneration, nomination, and governance committee. The company expects to announce the new chairperson in the coming months.
In a related update, Syrah also confirmed it is in the final stages of appointing a new non-executive director.
