The Spanish government has announced plans to map the country’s mineral resources, with a particular focus on critical raw materials essential for the green transition.
This initiative, unveiled on Tuesday, aligns with the European Union’s strategy to secure key minerals while reducing dependence on China.
Spain’s plan includes:
- Updating mining regulations and improving restoration policies for mining areas.
- Enhancing recycling efforts to recover valuable raw materials.
- Implementing dozens of measures to improve mineral production and management.
While the plan outlines various initiatives, it does not specify investment figures. A spokesperson for the Energy Ministry declined to comment on the financial commitment, stating that investments will depend on this year’s national budget, which is yet to be presented and approved in parliament.
