ASX-listed Sovereign Metals has commenced multiple geotechnical drilling programs at its flagship Kasiya rutile and graphite project in Malawi, marking significant progress toward the project’s Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS), which is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.
The drilling results will inform the engineering design and infrastructure layout for key project components, including the processing plant areas, tailings storage facility, raw water storage dam, Kasiya substation, and other essential mining infrastructure.
A variety of geotechnical and geophysical methods are being deployed across the site to ensure comprehensive data collection.
“Following the completion of our optimised prefeasibility study in January, DRA and several Tier-One consultants have been engaged to advance the DFS in collaboration with our experienced in-house team,” said Sovereign Metals Managing Director Frank Eagar.
He added, “The data being collected from these field programs will guide the optimal placement of our critical infrastructure. We remain on track to complete the DFS in the fourth quarter.”
The drilling activities are being overseen by the Sovereign-Rio Tinto Technical Committee, reinforcing the strategic partnership and shared focus on project development excellence.
