SIGMA Lithium Corporation, a key player in supplying lithium concentrate for the electric vehicle industry, has announced its Board of Directors’ Final Investment Decision to double production of its unique Quintuple Zero Green Lithium from the current 270,000 tonnes per year to 520,000 tonnes per year.
This decision entails initiating the construction of a second line at its Greentech Industrial Plant, involving a capital expenditure of $100 million (FEL3).
The Phase 2 expansion of the Industrial Greentech Plant aims to increase the Company’s total annual lithium capacity by 250,000 tonnes of Quintuple Zero Green Lithium, reaching 520,000 tonnes by 2025.
With this expansion, SIGMA Lithium will be capable of producing enough lithium concentrate to power approximately 1.8 million electric vehicles.
Mobilization for construction on-site will involve approximately 180 workers and construction equipment, focusing on building the earthworks, foundation, and infrastructure installation for the Greentech dense media separation production plant.
The Company has already received FEL3 quotes for the critical long lead items required for the project and has initiated planning orders from respective suppliers to secure manufacturing timetables.
The construction civil works, including earthworks and concrete plant drainage channels, are expected to be completed within approximately six months by the Brazilian construction firm, Promon Engenharia Ltda., which previously constructed the Phase 1 Industrial Greentech Plant on time and within budget.
Furthermore, SIGMA Lithium has identified approximately 35 critical long lead items necessary for the project and intends to commence ordering them from respective suppliers, placing deposits to ensure manufacturing timetables.
The prices and FEL-3 quotes for these long lead items align with the FEL-2 capital expenditure estimates outlined in the feasibility study included in the Company’s most recent technical report.
