Samancor Manganese, a subsidiary of South32, has entered a binding agreement to sell its Metalloys manganese alloy smelter in Gauteng to Khwelamet. Khwelamet is jointly owned by Menar and Ntiso Investing Holdings.
The transaction, expected to finalize in the second half of the 2025 financial year pending competition and regulatory approvals, will transfer all assets and liabilities of Metalloys to the buyer.
Production at Metalloys ceased in March 2020, and Samancor will maintain the site on care and maintenance until ownership transfers to Khwelamet.
South32 owns 60% of Samancor, with the remaining 40% owned by Anglo American.
