Rio Tinto CEO Jakob Stausholm expressed his devastation over recent sexual harassment lawsuits filed against the company, stating he would take immediate action if any wrongdoing is confirmed.
In an interview with Reuters on Thursday, Stausholm described the allegations, which involve the company’s Australian mine sites, as “unacceptable” and reiterated that the company would take all necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
“I was devastated when I read the news the other morning,” Stausholm said. “If something that is not okay is happening, it’s unacceptable. And we’ll do everything to avoid that.”
In the same interview, Stausholm also shared optimism regarding Rio Tinto’s potential lithium partnership with Chile’s state-owned Codelco.
He revealed that Rio Tinto is on the short-list for a potential tie-up in the Maricunga salt flat, a significant lithium-rich region in Chile.
