Nigeria and France have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing collaboration in critical minerals value chains.
The MoU was signed by Dele Alake, Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, and Benjamin Gallezot, France’s Minister of Critical Ores and Metals.
This agreement paves the way for joint efforts in research, knowledge sharing, skills transfer, and training programs for students from both countries.
As part of the partnership, Nigeria and France will focus on minimizing the environmental impacts of mining, with an emphasis on reducing carbon emissions, conserving water, and adapting to climate change, according to the Nigerian Ministry of Solid Minerals Development.
The two nations will also co-finance critical mineral extraction and processing projects, ensuring they adhere to international best practices.
Nigeria plans to leverage French expertise to revive over 2,000 abandoned mining pits and attract French investors, as stated by Minister Alake.
