Legislation governing the mining sector will be reviewed by the end of this year in an attempt to limit the export of unprocessed national mining products.
“Almost all of our mining projects export raw products, and that is what we want to change. We are looking at the best way to start, but we have already sent messages to operators encouraging them to prepare to add value to products,” said Silvino Moreno, Minister of Industry and Commerce.
Speaking to national journalists in Gaborone, Botswana, last week on the sidelines of the US-Africa Business Summit, Minister Moreno indicated as one example the heavy sand projects in Chibuto (Gaza) and Moma (Nampula), which could already be transforming products for the paint industry.
