AQSE- and A2X-listed Marula Mining has confirmed that modifications to its Kilifi manganese processing plant in Kenya remain on schedule for completion in the first quarter of 2025, according to a company update on February 14.
Ongoing work at Kilifi includes adjustments to the trommel scrubber and vibrating screen sizes, feed hopper, oversize crushing system, and stockpiling areas for the final manganese product.
Zegatron Engineering Solutions, a Nairobi-based specialist in mineral processing, engineering, and fabrication, has been contracted to execute these modifications, optimize plant performance, and oversee commissioning and initial operations.
As part of the preparation for commissioning, contractors have been engaged to transport mobile mining equipment to the site.
This equipment will support ore extraction, transportation, and loading of the processed manganese product, ensuring smooth logistics for high-grade manganese ore exports.
Marula expects plant commissioning and the first export sales to be completed this quarter.
Negotiations are ongoing for the initial sale of 5,000 tonnes of manganese, with agreements expected to be finalized this quarter. These initial sales could pave the way for long-term offtake agreements for the Kilifi plant.
In addition to progress at Kilifi, Marula recently secured its first copper sales agreement with a Europe-based global commodity trading group for high-grade copper concentrates from its Kinusi copper mine in Tanzania.
CEO Jason Brewer highlighted the company’s strong momentum, stating:
“With the strength of the manganese market, the high-value product we expect from Kilifi, and the progress across our projects, including Kinusi, Marula is firmly on track to establish itself as a multi-mine, multi-commodity critical metals producer.
This quarter was always set to be a major one for the company, and we remain committed to delivering on our strategy and production goals.”
With Kilifi’s modifications nearing completion, copper sales secured, and negotiations advancing on manganese offtake agreements, Marula Mining is positioning itself as a key player in Africa’s critical metals sector.
