Kodal Minerals Reports Fatal Security Incident at Bougouni Lithium Project in Mali
London-listed Kodal Minerals has confirmed the death of a security guard at its Bougouni lithium mine in Mali following an attack by armed assailants on motorcycles on August 22.
In a statement to shareholders, the company said:
“Military forces positioned at the site, which support the company’s security operations, engaged the attackers, who quickly fled the scene.
Regrettably, an employee of the company’s security contractor died at the scene. No other personnel were injured.”
Kodal Minerals added that it is working closely with the Malian government to strengthen site security for its staff and contractors.
The presence of military forces at the mine has been increased in response to the incident.
The company confirmed that mining and processing activities at Bougouni remain unaffected and operations are continuing as normal.
