Mineral exploration and development company Kodal Minerals has reported significant progress in its Bougouni lithium project in southern Mali, with production slated to commence in the fourth quarter after reaching key milestones in the first quarter.
The Bougouni Stage 1 dense media separation (DMS) circuit is fully financed, with all necessary permits secured, including environmental and social permits. Mali’s Environment Ministry recently approved Kodal’s community development plan.
CEO Bernard Aylward highlighted the collaborative efforts between Kodal Mining UK (KMUK) and the Hainan group, emphasizing the positive momentum in project development.
The management team has optimized the development plan for Bougouni, confirming a capital expenditure estimate of $65 million for Stage 1 utilizing a DMS approach.
Contracts for the supply of crushing circuit and DMS modules have been signed with experienced suppliers in China, ensuring timely delivery to meet production expectations.
The mining contract has been finalized with Malian contractors EGTF Mining and Auxin Mining Services Mali, with costs aligned with feasibility study projections.
Site mobilization is scheduled to commence this month, with clearing and civil engineering works set to begin in early April.
The endorsement of the project’s development program by Mali’s Minister for Environment, Professor Tiémoko Sangaré, underscores the project’s environmental and social responsibility.
The completion of all-weather access roads and ongoing negotiations with local communities further demonstrate progress towards project development.
