The Japanese government agency Jogmec is exploring a strategic partnership in Tanzania’s Kabanga nickel project, as reported by NYSE-listed Lifezone Metals. The collaboration aims to secure cleaner metals for Japan’s expanding battery industry.
Lifezone Metals has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Jogmec, which is actively pursuing sustainable metal sources.
The Kabanga project is set to leverage Lifezone’s Hydromet technology, which promises to reduce emissions compared to traditional smelting processes.
“With BHP as our development partner, Societe Generale as our lead financial adviser, support from the US International Development Finance Corporation and the Tanzanian government, and now strategic cooperation with Jogmec, we’re pushing this globally significant project forward for the benefit of all stakeholders,” said Lifezone CEO Chris Showalter.
As part of the MoU, Lifezone and Jogmec will work together to supply metals from Kabanga for Japan’s growing battery market. Jogmec is also considering financial support for Japanese companies under Japan’s government funding programs.
