TSX-listed Ivanhoe Mines has released an independently verified updated Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) for the Makoko District, part of its Western Forelands Exploration Project in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The updated MRE reports 27.7 million tonnes grading 2.79% copper in the indicated category and 493 million tonnes grading 1.7% copper in the inferred category, reinforcing the project’s significance within the global copper sector.
The Western Forelands project spans 2,393 km² and lies adjacent to Ivanhoe’s flagship Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex.
Since announcing the maiden MRE for Makoko in November 2023, Ivanhoe has drilled more than 86,000 metres of diamond core in the Makoko, Makoko West, and Kitoko zones—now collectively referred to as the Makoko District.
Across the broader Western Forelands area, including Kamoa and Kakula, Ivanhoe has identified 38.9 million tonnes of contained copper in measured and indicated resources, with an additional 13.6 million tonnes in inferred resources.
Notably, the Makoko District alone ranks as the highest-grade and fifth-largest new copper discovery globally in the last decade.
Mineralisation remains open in several directions, pointing to further growth potential.
Ivanhoe will continue its drilling campaign throughout the year, with new results to be incorporated into another MRE update planned for 2026.
