Mozambican Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, has announced that Indonesian businesses are interested in investing in battery production using minerals from Mozambique.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday in Maputo, during his participation in the Second Indonesia-Africa Forum held in Bali, Zacarias noted that both countries are exploring the possibility of collaborating in the mineral sector to begin battery production.
“In the mining sector, Indonesia has shown significant interest in battery production. We are studying the feasibility of this partnership. If realized, it will mark a significant milestone in bilateral cooperation within the mining industry,” he said.
The minister highlighted that the batteries produced from Mozambican minerals would be used in various applications, especially electric vehicles.
“Mozambique has vast graphite reserves, and this mineral is already being exported for use in electric vehicle batteries,” Zacarias added.
During the forum, delegations from both countries also discussed enhancing cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector.
“The two countries expressed a desire to collaborate in the industrial sector, given Indonesia’s advanced industry. There is also potential for strengthening bilateral ties in the transport sector,” Zacarias said.
He further noted that technical teams from both nations will soon meet to outline agreements for broader cooperation across various sectors.
