The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is actively participating in the 8th Annual Cobalt Institute Conference, which opened on Wednesday in Changi, Singapore.
The high-profile event, which brings together global leaders in the cobalt industry, concludes on Thursday, May 15.
The opening ceremony featured remarks by Dinah McLeod, Director of the Cobalt Institute, who welcomed official delegations—including those from the DRC and Indonesia—and expressed her gratitude for their participation, calling their presence an “honor” for the Institute.
Amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and market volatility since the beginning of the year, McLeod reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to promoting traceability, accountability, and sustainability across the cobalt supply chain.
“This congress is an opportunity to deepen discussions on the shared challenges facing our industry, in a spirit of collaboration and respect for human rights,” she stated.
The DRC’s delegation is led by Minister of Mines Kizito Pakabomba and includes representatives from the Presidency, Gécamines, and specialized departments within the Ministry of Mines.
As the world’s leading cobalt producer, the DRC’s strong presence underscores its strategic role in shaping the future of the industry.
Over the two-day conference, participants are exploring key industry challenges such as ethical supply chains, environmental impacts, and opportunities for stronger cooperation between producing and consuming nations.
Cobalt 2025 is emerging as a crucial platform for redefining the future of this vital metal—essential for batteries, electric vehicles, and the global clean energy transition—through a more responsible and collaborative approach.
