Zambezi Governor Lawrence Sampofu has called on investors to support the extensive drilling required to quantify 15 critical minerals recently discovered in the region.
Preliminary exploration conducted by Zita Dias Diamond Resources revealed the presence of aluminum, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, chloride, potassium, calcium, titanium, vanadium, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, copper, and tantalum.
These valuable minerals were found along a stretch from Kamenga to Nukwa and extending to Batubaja. Sampofu made the appeal during the announcement of the test results and the launch of the findings report on Monday.
Traditionally known for agriculture and tourism, the Zambezi region now has the potential to expand into the mining industry with these discoveries.
Sampofu emphasized the importance of collective support to help position Namibia as a leading supplier of these critical minerals, which are essential for energy transition, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies.
“I urge enterprising companies and investors to take part in the next stage of developing these discoveries for the benefit of the region and the country as a whole,” Sampofu stated.
