London-listed Alkemy Capital Investments announced the potential establishment of a 50-50 joint venture with Australia-listed Syrah Resources through its subsidiary, Tees Valley Graphite (TVG).
The collaboration aims to develop a commercial-scale anode active material (AAM) plant at the Wilton International Chemicals Park in the Teesside Freeport.
The proposed venture plans to process natural graphite from Syrah’s Balama operations in Mozambique to supply original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the UK and European battery markets.
Initial production targets 20,000 tonnes/year of AAM, with a planned investment of £250-300 million ($316.5-378m) in the UK’s battery supply chain.
The project is anticipated to address growing concerns over potential future supply shortages, emphasizing the global shift toward decarbonization and energy transition.
