Aim-listed Rome Resources has reported encouraging progress from its ongoing drilling campaign at the Mont Agoma prospect in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with initial core assessments indicating promising tin and copper mineralization.
Mont Agoma, a polymetallic prospect rich in tin, copper, and zinc, is part of the Bisie North projects along with the Kalayi and Mont Agoma Northwest prospects.
The drilling efforts have already yielded significant results, particularly with the success of the MADD10A hole, which intersected high-grade mineralization of copper, zinc, silver, and tin, reinforcing Mont Agoma’s potential.
The campaign saw varied success with individual drill holes. The MADD016 hole, halted prematurely at 46 meters due to equipment issues, entered a promising tin zone. A follow-up hole, MADD016A, successfully reached a depth of 242.5 meters, revealing a 67-meter-wide mineralized zone containing tin, copper, and zinc from 47 to 113 meters. Copper was also identified in isolated intervals below the primary tin zone, extending down to 220 meters.
Drilling on MADD017 is ongoing at a depth of 143 meters within the tin-copper-zinc zone, where several cassiterite (tin) veins were encountered between 117 and 140 meters, with a notable copper-rich zone between 98 and 113 meters. MADD018, meanwhile, is drilling above the anticipated mineralized area at 27 meters depth.
Rome Resources reports that drill samples are en route to ALS Johannesburg for further analysis, with initial on-site core evaluations showing high promise. Two drill rigs remain operational at Mont Agoma, and preliminary Niton X-ray fluorescence readings have suggested additional non-visible mineralization in both MADD016A and MADD017.
Current findings point to an expansion in the tin-rich zone towards the southeast, both along the strike and at depth. Final grades will be confirmed following laboratory analysis. Meanwhile, drilling continues at the Kalayi prospect, with additional updates expected soon.
CEO Paul Barrett expressed optimism about the recent findings, stating, “We are encouraged by the apparent increase in tin mineralization as drilling moves southeast and reaches greater depths.
The association of tin and copper mineralization supports our comparison to the San Rafael mine in Peru, which initially focused on copper before transitioning to a tin-copper zone. We believe we are operating in a similar transitional zone with significant discovery potential.”
Rome Resources anticipates further insights as laboratory results from the core samples become available, strengthening the company’s confidence in Mont Agoma’s exploration potential.
