Battery materials and technology company Talga Group has entered into an earn-in agreement with lithium miner Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile (SQM) for the Aero project in Sweden.
Under this agreement, Talga has granted SQM the right to solely fund exploration expenditures of up to $19 million over the next seven years in exchange for a 70% ownership interest in the project.
The Aero project is part of Talga’s suite of battery metal assets, separate from its advanced lithium-ion battery graphite anode business.
Covering 270 km² south and east of Gällivare, Aero has revealed lithium-prospective pegmatites over approximately 50 km of strike length, with surface sample results showing up to 1.9% lithium oxide.
Mark Froneman, CEO of SQM’s International Lithium Division, stated, “The agreement represents our dedicated efforts to build a global and competitive lithium asset portfolio.
Expanding into new and promising jurisdictions like Sweden has been a strategic goal for us, and partnering with Talga, who has demonstrated expertise in the region, further enhances this achievement.”
